The MB Vietnam Open delivered Saturday shocks as Australian duo Danni-Elle Townsend and Joseph Wild pickled the second-seeded Truong siblings in a Mixed Doubles thriller.

After dropping the opening game 4-11, Townsend and Wild unleashed an 11-0 bagel in game two – leaving the Americans stunned and the crowd buzzing. The Aussies rode that momentum to an 11-5 decider, punching their ticket to Sunday’s final against the tournament’s Cinderella story.

Qualifiers Harsh Mehta and Jamie Haas continued their fairy tale run, outlasting Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Vanshik Kapadia 2-1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-6). From qualifying rounds to championship final – the Indian-American partnership has been the story of the tournament.

Vietnam secured an all-local Men’s Singles final as Phuc Huynh defeated Panas Malaysia Open champion Giang Trinh 2-0 (11-9, 11-3) in their semifinal clash. Huynh reaches his second consecutive final after taking silver in Fukuoka, while first-time finalist Hoang Nam Ly awaits after navigating the bottom half.

The Women’s Doubles saw top seeds Alix Truong and Meghan Dizon end Ting Chieh Wei’s historic run. Wei’s quest for four straight titles came to a halt as the Americans prevailed 2-0 (11-8, 11-7) over Wei and Yufei Long in the quarterfinals.

Championship Sunday kicks off at 8am (GMT+7) with gendered doubles semifinals and singles finals. The afternoon session from 1pm features all doubles gold medal matches and the Mixed Doubles final.

Truong gets a quick shot at revenge in the Women’s Doubles semifinals, facing Townsend and Nicola Schoeman – fresh off their Fukuoka silver. The Men’s Doubles delivers its own intrigue as top seeds Jonathan Truong and AJ Koller meet Wong Hong Kit and Eunggwon Kim, while home favorite Phuc Huynh partners Mitchell Hargreaves against proven duo George Wall and Joey Wild.

Both Men’s Singles finalists seek to upgrade their recent medals. Hoang Nam Ly earned bronze in Hong Kong while Huynh pushed Connor Garnett to three games in last week’s Fukuoka final. Sunday’s all-Vietnamese showdown guarantees the home crowd their golden moment.

Yufei Long eyes a third Women’s Singles crown, adding to her Malaysia and Fukuoka triumphs. Standing between Long and history is Australia’s Sahra Dennehy in a rematch of their Fukuoka semifinal that Long won 2-0.

With qualifiers in finals, revenge showdowns, and Vietnam guaranteed gold, Sunday promises drama from first serve to final point.
