Day 3 at the Hong Kong Open 2025 delivered drama and raised the stakes as the tournament’s first finalists emerged from a day of high-intensity battles.

Local hero Wong Hong Kit booked his spot in a homegrown Championship Sunday, cruising past Vietnamese qualifier Hien Truong in dominant fashion (11-2, 11-2) in the Men’s Singles semifinal. The top seed’s clinical performance sets up a showdown with Panas Malaysia Open 2025 champion Giang Trinh, who defeated countryman Hoang Nam Ly 2-0 (11-8, 11-8) in an all-Vietnamese semifinal.

The Wong-Trinh final is a replay of their Panas Malaysia Open semifinal, where Trinh prevailed in a full-distance thriller en route to claiming gold. This time, Wong has home court advantage and a vocal crowd behind him.

Trinh’s marathon day continued in Mixed Doubles, where he partnered with Connie Lee to secure a finals berth. The duo outlasted Armaan Bhatia and Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall 2-1 (11-9, 8-11, 11-7) and will face Aiko Yoshitomi and Robert Stirling, who earlier defeated Kim Eunggwon and Long Yufei.

The Vietnamese star’s triple crown hopes ended in Men’s Doubles, where Giang and Hoang Nam Ly fell to Aussies George Wall and Joseph Wild in a titanic clash 2-1 (4-11, 11-7, 12-10).

In Women’s Singles, Roos van Reek continued her dominance over Panas Malaysia Open champion Long Yufei, cruising to victory 2-0 (12-10, 11-4) and ending Long’s six-match singles winning streak on the PPA Tour Asia. The Dutch star now faces Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Yu-chieh for gold, .
