Maiden Gold Struck on Season’s Stroke of Midnight

Author: PPA Tour Asia | December 6, 2025

Hoang Nam Ly has finally found himself on top of the podium. With the 2025 PPA Tour Asia season drawing to a close, the Vietnamese star claimed his maiden gold just before the stroke of midnight, capping off an incredible week of pickleball at the Vibrant Linping Hangzhou Open.

Ly’s Moment Arrives

Three bronzes. A silver after falling short in the MB Vietnam Open final. The gold had always slipped away for Ly. Not this time.

The #3 seed dismantled Hong Kit Wong 2-0 (11-4, 11-4) in their first ever PPA singles meeting, delivering a clutch performance when it mattered most. Wong had no answers as Ly controlled the match from start to finish with textbook groundstrokes and a poise that only broke when he secured the championship point – leaping in the air to celebrate the win.

Dennehy Delivers a Double

Sahra Dennehy delivered back-to-back Women’s Singles titles to close out the 2025 PPA Tour Asia season, following up her MB Vietnam Cup win with gold in China.

The Australian dispatched top seed Chao Yi Wang 2-0 (11-7, 11-2) in emphatic fashion. Passing shots found unreal angles. Power came backed by calm, cool composure. Dennehy was ice when it mattered most.

Sarah Dennehy was in her grove in Hangzhou.

It was a big statement from the Aussie. Wang had been in prime form of late, claiming silver at the recent PPA Tour Lakeland Open. But the Aussie made it two from two over Wang this season, having defeated her on the way to gold in Da Nang.

Truong & Do Complete Fairytale Run

The biggest drama of the day belonged to Hien Truong and Quan Do.

The pair shocked top seeds Federico Staksrud and Armaan Bhatia 2-1 (10-12, 11-6, 11-5) in a Men’s Doubles final that flipped the script. Having dropped the first game 10-12, everything pointed to Staksrud and Bhatia running away with the match. But the underdogs had other plans.

Momentum shifted massively. The #8 seeds took control and never looked back.

Turong and Do caused a stir in September when seemingly out of nowhere they pushed Ben Johns and Christian Alshon the full distance at the Panas Malaysia Cup. Now they’ve proved it was no flash in the pan and leave China with gold in hand.

Top Seeds Close It Out

Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles went closer to script with top seeds taking it out.

Chao Yi Wang and Alix Truong stopped the run of all-lefty pairing Sarah Burr and Jamie Haas 2-0 (11-8, 11-6). Meanwhile Staksrud and Truong took down surprise finalists Nok Yiu Tang and Eunggwon Kim in straight games (11-9, 11-1).

Season Wrapped

With the final stop of 2025 complete, stay tuned for more updates on where PPA Tour Asia will be headed in 2026.
