Panas Malaysia Open Heats Up as Triple Crown Contenders Emerge
July 5, 2025
|Pro Men’s Singles top seed Wong Hong Kit showed his recent hot streak hasn’t lost any steam at the Panas Malaysia Open 2025. The inaugural PPA Tour Asia tournament saw Wong cruise through Friday’s singles action with hard-hitting victories over Leander Lazaro and local hope Colin Wong. The Gold Coast Slam and Tweed Heads Cup champion is looking in form in his quest for another singles title.
But there could be more than one gold on the cards with Wong still in the hunt for a triple crown.
Teaming up with Tang Nok Yui in the Pro Mixed Doubles, the duo cemented their place in a Championship Sunday semifinal matchup. It was a hard path to the penultimate round, requiring back-to-back full-distance encounters to head to the medal rounds.
Tang was also responsible for one of the biggest shocks of the day, knocking out Pro Women’s Singles top seed Andie Dikosavljevic in the round of 16. Tang followed up with a straight-games victory over Seina Shima to take her semifinal spot, keeping her remarkable run and triple crown chances alive.
Yufei Long, Nicola Schoeman and singles qualifier Vanshik Kapadia are all still in contention to top the podium in three events.
Saturday’s action features the Gendered Doubles events alongside the singles semifinals, setting the stage for Championship Sunday where the medals will be decided.
