Twoey Takes the Triple in Fukuoka

Connor Garnett left Japan holding on to plenty of hardware and heroics in his two hands – three gold medals and a nearly spotless record at the Sansan Fukuoka Open 2025.

The American’s only blemish came in the Men’s Singles final where Vietnam’s Phuc Huynh provided the week’s biggest drama for the top seed.

After watching Garnett sprint to a 6-0 lead out the gate, Huynh dug deep and stunned the crowd by snatching the first game 11-8. For a moment, the script looked ready to flip.

Garnett had other plans. The world #3 responded with brutal efficiency, finding winners from every corner of the court, he dropped just four points across the next two games (11-3, 11-1) to lock up his first title of the day.

The Mixed Doubles brought an MLP reunion as Black Diamonds teammates Garnett and Allyce Jones dispatched Len Yang and Wei Ting Chieh 2-0 (11-7, 11-5). Garnett capped his perfect day in Men’s Doubles, partnering Tyler Loong to defeat local favorite Kenta Miyoshi and Robert Stirling in straight games 2-0 (11-3, 12-10), silencing the home crowd’s hopes.

Meanwhile, Yufei Long added to her growing trophy collection with a commanding Women’s Singles victory over Hsieh Yu-chieh 2-0 (11-1, 11-7). The win gives Long back-to-back singles titles after her Panas Malaysia Open triumph, while Hsieh collected her second consecutive silver following last week’s Hong Kong Open final.

Long wasn’t done. Reuniting with fellow UPA Asia Trailblazer Ting Chieh Wei, the duo battled past Australians Danni-Elle Townsend and Nicola Schoeman 2-1 (6-11, 11-4, 11-6) for Women’s Doubles gold.

Next up: PPA Tour Asia heads to Ho Chi Minh City for the MB Vietnam Open from September 4-7.
