Victory In Vietnam; Phuc Huynh Strikes Gold at Home

Home court, home hero, home gold. Phuc Huynh dominated the all-Vietnamese Men’s Singles final at the MB Vietnam Open 2025, dispatching Hoang Nam Ly 2-0 (11-5, 11-1) to deliver Ho Chi Minh City’s golden moment.

Having won silver in Fukuoka last week, it was an upgrade up the podium for the local star.

Phuc Huyhn brought the  pressure never let up from the first serve. After securing match point, he turned to the packed stands with arms raised, reminding everyone that this was Vietnam’s court – and Vietnam’s moment.

The Women’s Singles final brought drama that had fans on their feet. Yufei Long claimed her third PPA Tour Asia title, but unlike her routine wins in Malaysia and Fukuoka, this one required every ounce of fight. Down a game to Sahra Dennehy, Long clawed back for a 2-1 (10-12, 11-6, 11-9) thriller.

The doubles finals delivered contrasting storylines. Top seeds flexed their rankings as Alix Truong and Meghan Dizon cruised to Women’s Doubles gold 2-0 (11-3, 11-0), barely breaking a sweat. The Men’s Doubles followed suit with Americans AJ Koller and Jonathan Truong handling Australians George Wall and Joseph Wild 2-0 (11-6, 11-7). Veteran Koller’s leadership guided the first-time partnership to gold.

The Mixed Doubles final pitted two giant-killing teams against each other. Qualifiers Harsh Mehta and Jamie Haas – who shocked top seeds Koller/Dizon earlier – faced Danni-Elle Townsend and Joseph Wild, fresh from their upset of the Truong siblings. The Cinderella story ended just short of midnight as the Aussies prevailed 2-0 (11-4, 11-9), despite a late surge from the qualifier heroes.

With Vietnam celebrating its golden boy and Long cementing her dominance, the MB Vietnam Open delivered everything the home crowd wanted and more.

Next stop: Malaysia Cup, September 24-28.
