Wong Hong Kit Wins Homemade Hong Kong Open Title
| August 24, 2025
Wong Hong Kit has struck gold on home soil, coming out as the Men’s Singles champion at the Hong Kong Open 2025. The local hero had the crowd on their feet as he fought his way to a full-distance win over Giang Trinh 2-1 (11-9, 4-11, 9-11).
It wasn’t just the sweet taste of victory for Wong on Championship Sunday, but also revenge. The Hong Kong, China star had gone down to Trinh last month in the semifinals of the Panas Malaysia Open.
Cat and mouse play once again dominated the encounter. Trinh looked set on moving his opponent around the court, wearing him down rather than putting the ball away. It was a grind and Wong was up to the challenge.
Grit was the name of the game, as both Wong’s notches on the scorecard were won with his back against the wall. In the opener he was down 5-9 and in the decider down 6-9. Trinh had local racing around Kai Tak Arena, but screams of jiayou from the crowd ensured Wong never ran out of fuel. Both times the bleachers inspired their star and got him over the line.
An incredible reversal from Wong and a gold medal in the bag.
A homegrown defense was also on the cards in the Men’s Doubles final, with Wong partnering Kim Eunggwon against Len Yang and Thomas Yu. But despite saving multiple match points, it was the wildcards that won the prize, with Yang and Yu spoiling the party 2-1 (11-6, 9-11, 12-10).
In the Women’s Singles it was life in the fast lane for Roos van Reek.

Leading from beginning to end van Reek was never in doubt as she outplayed Hsieh Yu-chieh 2-0 (11-2, 11-3) to snag the gold.
The same story unfolded in Women’s Doubles for van Reek and her partner Wei Ting Chieh. It was one way traffic to the top of the podium as van Reek and Wei defeated Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Long Yufei 2-0(11-4, 11-3).
Meanwhile in the Mixed Doubles it was surprise champions that emerged as Robert Stirling and Aiko Yoshitomi claimed the gold over Connie Lee and Giang Trinh in straight games (11-1, 11-7).
Next stop for the PPA Tour Asia is Japan at the Sansan Fukuoka Open which kicks off August 26.
