World Record Crowd Witnesses Blockbuster Championship Saturday in Vietnam
| October 4, 2025
A wild ride came to an end on a high as a crowd that broke world records brought the energy to Da Nang on Championship Saturday at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025.
Truong Time: Siblings Seal Mixed Doubles Redemption
USA siblings Alix and Jonathan Truong got the gold in Mixed Doubles, delivering the championship they narrowly missed at the MB Vietnam Open. After falling just short last month, they made sure to take the title in ferocious fashion with a 2-0 (11-1, 11-6) dismantling of Chao Yi Wang and Tyson McGuffin.
Fierce as ever, the fire and ice sibling combo delivered the goods, and with Vietnamese heritage they had the crowd in their corner for the trip to the top. Skylobs had the fans holding their breath as Jonathan’s touch combined with Alix’s power to create an unstoppable force. The Truongs left no doubt this time around, taking out the title to the roar of the fans.
Phuc’s Vietnam Fortress Holds Strong
Men’s Singles was one-way traffic for Phuc Huynh as he continued his dominance on home soil. Two stops in for PPA Tour Asia in Vietnam and both went his way with a 2-0 (11-1, 11-4) demolition of compatriot Hien Truong.

The crowd roared with every point as Phuc controlled the court with surgical precision. Singles is his event and he doesn’t look like giving over an inch of the court in Vietnam any time soon. The all-Vietnamese final delivered exactly what the home fans wanted and Phuc made sure to put on a show.
McGuffin/Oncins: Lightning Strikes Twice
It was back-to-back doubles titles for Tyson McGuffin and Eric Oncins as they weathered the Armaan Bhatia and Zane Navratil storm 2-1 (5-11, 11-9, 11-0). The experienced duo showed championship mettle when it mattered most.
Navratil and Bhatia looked like they had the match in their hands after dominating the opening game, but let it slip away as McGuffin and Oncins found their groove. What could have been a straight games win for the upset artists went the way of the veterans. Two weeks ago Eric Oncins had never been in a PPA final. Now he left his tour in Asia with two Men’s Doubles golds, both alongside McGuffin who continues to prove why as an OG of the game he remains at the top.
Dennehy’s Golden Moment
Women’s Singles went the way of Aussie Sahra Dennehy 2-0 (11-5, 11-7) as she capped off a remarkable week in Da Nang. After eliminating both seeds en route to the final, Dennehy saved her best for Championship Saturday.
Becoming a stalwart of the podium at PPA Tour Asia, she finally got her first gold, denying Liz Truluck a maiden win in what was her own first ever PPA final. Dennehy’s giant-killing run reached its perfect conclusion as she controlled the pace and never let Truluck find the comeback magic from Friday’s semifinal heroics.
Christian/Wang: Double Trouble Strikes Again
Women’s Doubles saw back-to-back titles for Kaitlyn Christian and Chao Yi Wang with a clinical 2-0 (11-8, 11-8) performance over Ting Chieh Wei and Alix Truong. Once again getting their hands on the gold medal after also winning at the Panas Malaysia Cup, the partnership proved why they’re the team to beat.

Christian and Wang controlled both games from start to finish, never allowing their opponents to build any sustained pressure. Their chemistry and court coverage continue to set the standard.
With 7906 fans in attendance, the Guinness World Record for pickleball fan attendance was broken and confirmed after the final match concluded. Pickleball has truly arrived in Asia.
